Bush Bash 2018
13/01/18 @ Te Aro
Immersive art exhibition, performance art, live mural in the Bush Bash house!
"On Saturday 13th of January in the Aro Valley bush from midday to midnight a wonderful gig took place. The line up consisted of ONONO, Mr Amish, Heavy Chest, The Nae Nae Express, Finn Johansson, The Happy Plaster, Canned Beef, moody.v and the menstrual cycle and Earth Tongue.
The whole event was hosted and organised by the amazing Ben Jones.
Mouthfull set up an art gallery space comprised of work by:
The room was accompanied by a soft orange light and a cacophony of native bird sounds on a loop composed by Blue for Noon's James Erwin. On the floor was a mancala set made from paua next to a collection of beautiful copper, shell & paua necklaces by Peregrin Handcrafts.
Branches and leaves jutted out from the floorboards and walls and we overheard a couple of people saying "it feels more like the bush than outside". Sheesh! Down the hall by the inside stage was a mural painted by James Finnerty - a Henri Matisse's classic made to look like a Keith Haring piece. On top of the art exhibition and the painted mural, we curated performance art from Single Ply Co. (Michael Hockey+Mark Nicholas) which consisted of balloons, paint and reading excerpts from 'Thinking Dolphins, Talking Whales' by Frank Robson. $410 of art was sold from the exhibition, we took a ten percent commission ($41) and aptly gave it to Zealandia Ecosanctuary; the remaining 90% all went to the relative artists!
It was a super hot summer day, a successful gig and a very very fun time for all. We're sure most of Wellington are eagerly awaiting the next Bush Bash."
